Just before the Christmas break we got to visit the Newgrange heritage site. We started off by visiting the visitor centre where we got to see artefacts from the stone age and get an insight into life during the stone age. After watching a little video about early settlers and the winter solstice we got to visit the actual tomb! We had to crouch to enter the centre of the tomb where the remains of bodies would have been left. All of a sudden the tourguide switched off the lights and gave us a demonstration of how the sun illuminates the passage on the 21st of December every year. We learned lots of interesting things about Newgrange. Our favourite fact was that Newgrange is over 5000 years old, which is older than the pyramids in Egypt!
