NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2019

Parent Teacher Meetings: This years meetings will take place on the 12th and 13th of November
2019. Parents will now be able to book their meeting through the Aladdin Connect App. Guidance
in booking your PTM is available on the app. Meeting slots will be open to parents on Friday 25th
of October.

World Mental Health Day: On Wednesday 10th of October our whole school took part in a walk
to support mental health awareness. All students participated excellently and really enjoyed the
walk. Each boy in the school was matched with a buddy who will act as a wellness mentor for
them throughout the school year. A huge thank you to our Wellness Team, Eunice, Ms.Smith &
Ms.Madden and to Carol for organising the staff walk before school.

Trick or Treat for Temple street: We are participating in Trick or Treat for Temple Street on
Friday 25th October to raise much-needed funds for Temple Street Children’s Hospital. The boys
are asked to wear fancy-dress and bring in a small donation.

Shoe Box Appeal: Our Team Hope Shoe Box Appeal is well underway. Mrs. Keane would like to thank all
the boys who have already brought in shoe boxes. It is greatly appreciated. The closing date for receipt of
shoeboxes is Friday 25th of October. A sincere thank you to Mrs Keane for coordinating the collection.

Futsal: Well done to all the 3rd and 4th class boys who participated in Futsal this term. The games were
played in great spirit with some top skills on show. Last week some of the boys represented the school in the
FAI Futsal tournament in the MDL. The boys played really well, scored lots of goals, had lots of fun and were
a pleasure to bring out for the day. We were delighted to be crowned joint winners of the tournament. Well
done to all involved and a particular thank you to the coach Mr Malocca.

Cycle Safety: The 6th Class boys completed an 8 week cycle right safety course with two fully
trained cycle safety trainers. This consisted of 2 classroom based lessons and 5 practical lessons
on the bikes in the yard, there was also one lesson which took part on the public road. The boys
have learned lots of skills and should be much safer cyclists after completing this course. We
would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that cycling to school is one of the healthiest
and environmentally friendly ways to travel to school. Please ensure any child cycling to school is
reminded of road safety and wears a helmet. Thank you to Mr McDonald for coordinating the
course.

Every School Day counts Initiative: For the month of November the school will be taking part in the ‘very
school day counts’ initiative run by Túsla. The boys will be taught about the importance and positive
outcomes for pupils who have good attendance. The school is setting the challenge of 98% attendance for
the month of November. We appreciate your help with this positive initiative. Please find attached flyer below
for parents.

Gaelic Football: The boys recently completed the seventh and final round of the Cumann na
mBunscoil Boys Division One Shield. As they’ve won all their matches they are now straight
through to the Final. The final will take place in November and we will let you know the date as
soon as we do. Well done to all the boys (over 30 of them) who have represented the school
throughout the competition. We’re currently training every lunchtime preparing for the final. Thank
you to the parents who have travelled to support us in the various matches and thank you to the
teachers who have facilitated the team to travel to their matches. We wish the team the best of
luck in the final! Go raibh maith agaibh do na bainisteoirí Mr McDonald K agus J!

Friendship Squad: Big thank you to the boys in 5th and 6th class who participated in the
Friendship Squad this term. They very kindly spent their lunch break playing games with the junior
and senior infants and modelling skills such as turn taking and sharing.
Mrs. Raftery will be looking for boys after the Halloween break from 3rd and 4th class to volunteer
for the next term, thank you to all who have participated in the programme so far!

Duleek/Bellewstown LipSync Battle: Tickets are available for the Lipsync Competition in aid of
Duleek Bellewstown Gaelic Football Club. We have three staff members taking part (Mr. Raftery,
Mrs. Kinsella and Ms. Hartford) who would love your support on the big night, November 16th.

the happy couple every happiness together.
Happy Halloween: School closes at the regular time of 3.00pm tomorrow. We would like to
wish our pupils, staff and parents a very happy and safe Midterm break.

to and from school. Please use pedestrian crossing at all times. Crossing between
parked cars/buses is extremely dangerous.
