Happy Christmas &

Happy New Year!

Dear Parents,

On behalf of all the pupils and staff of Duleek BNS, I would like to wish all the families of the community a very Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year.

Additional School Closure: School will be closed for pupils on Monday 21st of January 2019 for our Language Curriculum in service day.

Homework Club: Homework Club will begin in the New Year and will be available to pupils from 2nd – 6th class on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This will be a great facility to avail of in school. Homework Club offers supervised time to complete homework while providing a suitable and quiet space free from the normal distractions that may be in the home. Please await further information and the opportunity to enroll your son/s in the New Year.

Set Dancing and Sean Nós Dancing: Set dancing and sean nós dancing will resume on Tuesday 8th January 2019 from 3pm-4.15pm. It is open to children from 1st class to 4th class and will run every Tuesday. If your son would like to join the class please email Ms Madden at emmamadden246@gmail.com.

Football: After the heartbreak of our one point defeat in the Cuman na mBunscol Boys Division One Shield, we are now turning our attention to the upcoming Corn Cois Farraige Competition which will begin in January, and to our in-school leagues which began last week. We have two in-school leagues which we run at lunchtimes. Our 5th/6th class league has three teams, Meath, Cork and Kerry, while Mayo, Donegal and Galway make up our 3rd/4th class league. We are delighted with the number of boys involved. If your son is involved we would just ask you to remind him of the importance of playing when his team is due to play, as otherwise he is letting his team-mates down. Also we would ask that you remind him that nobody is allowed to play without a gumshield. The school leagues will run throughout the rest of the year, culminating in the finals in June. We hope the boys enjoy participating and we wish them the best of luck! Thank you to Mr McDonald J and K for all their efforts with football team in school. We would also like to thank Damien Sheridan (Meath GAA development officer) and Frank McKeon of Duleek/Bellewstown GAA for coaching our younger footballers recently.

Book Fair: Thank you to all who purchased books in our school book fair. The school receive a significant percentage of free books based on sales, which will add to our ever-growing library. A sincere thank you to our Parents Association for running the event so successfully.

ASD Understanding Week: A big thank you to parents, teachers, staff and pupils for their contributions to Autism understanding week. It was a hugely successful event, and everyone benefited from it. A special thank you to the event coordinators Ms Madden, Mrs Levins and Mrs Hand.

Christmas Market: Our 5th and 6th class junior entrepreneurs will be selling their products in the village on Wednesday 19th. They will also be setting up a Christmas market in the school hall on Thursday 20th from 1.15 to 2.30pm. Please note this will be a parent only event.

Carol Singing: We will be doing our annual Christmas Carol Singing on Friday 21st of December at 11.15 in the school hall. All welcome to join in the singing!

Enrolment September 2019: Enrolment for new junior infants for September 2019 will open in January 2019. Please call into the office for an application form.

School will finish at 12.00pm on Friday 21st of December for the Christmas Holidays. We will re-open on Monday the 7th of January 2019.

Reminders:

  • Road Safety: Please remind your child about road safety whether walking or cycling to and from school.  Good behaviour, manners and respect are extremely important on the way home. Please ensure your son is keeping safe at all times.
  • Please use pedestrian crossing at all times. Crossing between parked cars/buses is extremely dangerous. Parents are asked not to park on or near the Pedestrian Crossings and Bus Lanes.
  • Please check out our website for news and updated calendar.duleekboys.scoilnet.ie
